Yeah, I know it's kinda lonely without her around. But don't give up! You gotta be beautiful for when she comes home, or she'll scold us. ...Uh... let's see, what else...

...you must've liked that rain we just got, huh? I sort of wondered if it'd ever end. And we're lucky those weird magic things didn't ruin your bed... haha, imagine how mad she'd have been then? Those wizards would be in big trouble. ...Yeah, me too, probably.

...uh... dammit, this is harder than I thought... it's not you, guys, it's me.

[Zack can be found sitting in the garden in front of house 50, talking to the flowers. Yes, talking to the flowers. Very awkwardly. Feel free to bother him /o/]

[A small shrug.] Picked things up here and there. [Including from Sephiroth.] But you're not, are you?

No, sir. [Zack swung the Buster around to rest at his back once more.] Is there such a thing as the SOLDIER program on your world?

We had elite fighters. [Pursing his lips, still holding his sword, lowered so as not to attack.] It was almost a joke when the Heartless came. The one who lasted longest was Sephiroth, of course.

Sephiroth... [Zack turns to the side and starts to pace a bit, arms crossing, before turning back to him.] What's your relationship to Sephiroth? It feels different from my Cloud's.

[There's hesitation. MAJOR hesitation, because Zack just hit on, like. Well over half the reason KH!Cloud feels like FF!Cloud is inherently better. He sits down on a log, folding his hands beneath his chin before answering.]

...I don't know. He's not the man he used to be. Or the man we thought he was.

I thought he was my darkness. Just memories. He says...

He claims he's me.

That's why I have to kill him. [One way or another, it's his fight.]

[Zack gives him time to explain, hands shifting slightly against his arms. Huh... that is different.]

Why would he say that? I mean, our Seph was always going on about how the rest of us were inferior to him, and he was going to rule the world and take back the planet and a bunch of holier-than-thou crap nobody believed but him. He liked to call everyone else 'pawns' or 'puppets' or something like 'em.

[There's a small "heh" at that, hands still folded near his chin.]

Mine likes that too. "Puppets"...he plays with your head, your heart, makes you think there's only one path to take. Sometimes... [No, that's not a good thought, STFU Cloud.

Turns his head a little more toward Zack, instead of the straightforward *brood* pose he's been indulging in.] Have you fought him?

[Zack furrows his brows at that one.] ...Once. He beat me, though. If my Cloud hadn't been there, I'd probably have died.

[Damn Sephiroth, why do you always gotta go crazyface? :c]

[Crazy is as crazy does. :|b Cloud just takes that in, closing his eyes slightly.]

I'll be fighting him again when I go back. I'm going to kill him one last time, and then I'll break the cycle. [It's like a self-affirmation, though he's not sure how it will happen yet. Anyway. He stands up, dusting his pants off.] So you lost to him? Maybe I need to challenge him next.

[There's a small bit of reluctance there, though. He just hates dealing with Sephiroth, period, for how it makes him feel afterward, and FF!Sephiroth doesn't induce fury quite like his counterpart does. ...although that might change if he heard more about what FF!Sephiroth has done. ffff]

How many times have you killed him already? And what's different about this time that'll end it?

[The thought of both worlds' Sephiroths being able to revive themselves is troublesome. How many times had Cloud killed him? Would he keep coming back? If there's some secret to preventing it and this Cloud knows, Zack wants to find out.]

If you really want to challenge him, suit yourself. Just be careful- with Jenova here, he's probably more dangerous than he seems. I don't want to see you get hurt. [A pause.] And make sure he knows who you are. I don't want him chasing after Spike when they've managed to avoid each other this long.

Too many. But, if I'm the reason he's coming back... [Then ending things becomes very simple, doesn't it? But he doesn't say that.] Tifa has a plan. ...I have an idea of my own. One way or another, we'll settle things.

And don't worry. I'm not looking to start fights with your Cloud, at least.

Jenova... The "mother". I've spoken to her.

[...I love how he's completely avoided the "I don't want to see you get hurt" part. He's just like "well that's a common sentiment."]

...I hope your plan isn't anything predictably stupid. [It sounds terrible, but... well, it's Cloud. Alternate reality or not, he's not well-known for his brilliant plans.]

As for Jenova, she's no one's mother. She's a lying bitch who wants to destroy everything- she's not worth talking to.

[Zack's used to the whole avoidance thing, so no biggie there.]

[Hopefully Zack is really used to the avoidance thing, because he's only getting a one-shoulder shrug on the first part. Really, Cloud's plan is quite simple and foolproof if you believe in the end justifying the means. ...otherwise, yes, "predictably stupid" fits nicely.]

Not even Sephiroth's? ['cause as Cloud sees it, apple ain't falling too far from the tree there.]

[...Sigh. Could've seen that coming a mile away. Zack files that one to the side for "things to bitch about when he knows Cloud better". They don't have the same background, so it's doubtful that he'll be receptive to it. ...Not yet, anyway.]

Not even Sephiroth's. [Zack shuffles his feet a bit, moving to lean against a tree.] He had a human mother. He was given Jenova cells, just like me and Spike, but Seph got 'em before he was born. I guess they affected him more because of that, or he got a lot more than us- either way, he grew up thinking his mom was Jenova. Finding out what she was and how she was treated as a test subject drove him crazy. It all went downhill from there.

...she's another difference, I think. But still similar. Gaining strength, losing control. In the end, is it ever worth it? [The question is a bit rhetorical as Cloud looks up, away from Zack.]

"Elite fighters"...it's a joke here, too.

[Zack glances over, puzzled.]

What do you mean?

The kidnappings. No one's ever stopped one, and the disappearances--

[Stops that thought.] ...It's better they go home, though. [Because really, being unhappy that someone you kind of liked is in a safer place? Being a jerk. Cloud's pretty sure on that one.]

...Guess so. [Zack looks away, eyes closing.] Some people are better off here, though. I don't want to go back yet.

[There's a steady look in Zack's direction for that one--wondering if he wants to pursue that subject.

...No, not really. Cloud turns on his heel to leave.] Thanks.

[Zack didn't expect the conversation to last long, so he smiles and lifts a hand to wave.] Sure. Feel free to ask for a rematch anytime.
