[He can't exactly understand how that feels - he's never heard Jenova's voice, or been affected by the cells in any way but physical, but he's seen what they do to people. And it always sucks when someone you care about is having a shit time.]

I heard it, too. Or felt it, I guess. Someone was screaming and crying, but it was more like a warning than a call. To run away, or to help- or both.

...I don't like this. These visions- they're so specific. It's practically like they were tailored for us.

Yeah, it's creepy. And if they're supposed to be important, are they trying to tell us about something that did happen, or warn us about what's going to happen?

[Like it could all be pointless drama made to freak them out but that seems way too optimistic (and dismissive) an explanation.]

Some kid on the network seems to think these things are all related to everything else we've been going through. Well- not that either of us know much about those. [The only thing Cloud's really experienced was calibrations and as unpleasant as it was, he doesn't necessarily think it was related.]

Yeah, I'm useless for that kinda stuff. It's been like a month and I barely know the names of all the ships.

[He's not exactly known for his fine analytical intellect. That ain't why anybody kept him around, and he's fine with that. It's enough to not be stupid.]

The way it usually goes is this: whether we figure it out first or not, sooner or later whoever sent this to us is gonna show their hand. So we'd better prepare for the worst.

Mm. [Cloud hasn't been the best at it either, though he tries to put the pieces together whenever he can. He does much better providing the stubbornness and the muscle than the brains, though.] ...I have enough scrap to make one bigger sword, or two smaller ones. I think considering the circumstances, the second option is the best one.

We should also see what we can do about getting Aerith a staff.

Is Aerith, um... how is she, in a fight? She never used to do that back then, so it's hard to imagine, but I don't want to crowd her or act like I don't think she can do it...

She's strong. [In a fair fight.] She's a lot better with materia, so if you've got any spells you should pass them over to her. I heard that people can just find stuff from home sometimes so here's hoping we find like, Comet or a Bahamut summon or something.

Yeah, that'd be nice, but I'm not holding my breath. Until then, she can have mine.

[Much as it fusses him to let them go, she's one of two people here he'd actually trust with them, and he's not about to let her go unarmed when he can help it.]

I'll talk to my guy about weapons. She's also got her healing and sealing techniques too...but I think if she catches us talking about her like she needs to be protected, she'll give us both a good dressing down.

I don't like this, going about it like we're just going to be doing damage control, but when we don't even know where these visions came from...

You've been here longer than either of us. Do they ever tell us when weird stuff like this happens? Or are we on our own here?

Not much longer, [Cloud points out, and besides that he'd been sulking and hiding for most of it. Not that Zack has to know that...] But far as I can tell, no. Shit just happens. Sometimes we get a memo, if they're feeling generous.

You got me and Aerith now, this time. You're not alone. [Cloud's voice is firm, steady. He can't have much faith in himself for his own sake, but to protect Aerith, to protect Zack? Shit, he'll tear apart entire armies.]

[So, in retrospect, he should have known that was coming? But he sure as hell didn't, so the pause on Zack's end that follows is substantial. It's... wow.

It's been a very long time since he had anyone to reliably depend on like this.]
