Note to self: be more careful about who you flirt with. Sheesh.

So, lots of familiar New Feathers this time around, huh? It's getting kind of crazy. Is everyone getting settled in okay? Yuri, any guild business I should be doing?

It's been awfully quiet lately... not sure if we should be worried or what.

Oh hey, Spike! I got Tammy nesting in my room now. She's sulking, though, so I wouldn't let anybody bug her if I were you. They grow up so fast.

I wouldn't really call myself a knight. Edward perhaps, but not myself.

Indeed. It is something that has taken some time to get used to.

I am not serving any particular kingdom anymore, though I am backed by one politically. Edward is the one who fights for nobility and dedication to his leader. I'm just the one who goes looking for trouble.

Very well.

It's part of that long story. We are family that does not share blood, and I hold no claim to her empire.

I am not a country or a cause, but Edward fights for me like any knight I have ever known. The way he fights is not suited to armor like mine, so he doesn't wear it.

I was king. Not all of the experience was great.

He has chain mail on to protect his chest in case something gets past that sword, but otherwise light clothing. For carrying something so large, he is surprisingly fast.

It's as complicated as it sounds.

He can very nearly keep up with me on the battlefield, though I suspect his sword weighs as much as I do. I think his lunaglyph is part of it, but the rest is his own enthusiasm.

[identity profile] grinnvalesti.livejournal.com 2009-01-18 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
You do not know of them?

A lunaglyph is a magical glyph bestowed on the night a child is born. It is a gift of lunar power, and its strength depends on the phase of the moon on the night of the birth. It is how most people in my world gain power.

[identity profile] grinnvalesti.livejournal.com 2009-01-18 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
The moon god gives people power. When there is a new moon or an eclipse, a child is considered an "unblessed." The different kingdoms have varying ways of dealing with such children, but they are generally considered bad omens and done away with.

I believe the phrase goes, "you are preaching to the choir."

It encompasses so much that it seems almost impossible to change. After living both with lunaglyph and without, I have learned that the only thing holding the unblessed from growing is the stigma the world has over them.

[identity profile] grinnvalesti.livejournal.com 2009-01-18 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. The ones that survived have been enduring this for centuries, and it is far from the truth. Far too long, it has had terrible consequences, and I cannot fathom how many lives were lost over such prejudice.

[identity profile] grinnvalesti.livejournal.com 2009-01-18 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
Because of the will of Veros, the moon god, there are often laws against sheltering unblesseds. In Burgusstadt they are killed. Fayel is the same, though banishment is acceptable. Some parents send their children away, hoping their sons and daughters will eventually come to Sapran, the village of unblesseds. Halgita is one of the few nations that allows unblesseds to live safely, though they are still looked down upon for the nature of their being.

It is allowed because so many see these actions as righteous. Most of those in power enforce it to be so.

It is something to be very glad for. It is not just the religion, but the god at the center of it who perpetuates this tragedy.

How strange it sounds, and yet it sounds so pleasant. Veros the Crimson is a distant god, but never too distant. Aristos with the proper amount of strength or number can call on his aid and a part of him appears to grant lunaglyphs. He is not a part of our lives, but he is nevertheless there.
