Hey guys, I'm back. In the most important sense, too - kinda late to say this, but I'm really sorry for everything I said in the last few days. From what I heard, just about everyone was acting weird, so I'm not gonna kill myself with emo about it, but... yeah. I'm sorry.

[And Seph knows this, because he is now in ur house, chillin' with your Zack. Obviously unable to speak, Sephiroth gives a welcoming gesture that would have been taken as a signal of dismissal from anyone that did not know him.]

[Zack salutes playfully with his left hand, the right hand bandaged at his side. In the pale light if the house, his eyes remained plain blue, no familiar glow to be found.]

On time as always.

[Nodding, Sephiroth sends a small frown at the bandages on Zack's hand before moving closer to the young man. Peering curiously at Zack's eyes, Sephiroth purses his lips in thought. Indeed, no mako, though still bright as ever.]

How do you feel?

[Zack shrugged, plopping down in a chair and motioning Sephiroth to do the same.]

Everything's kinda surreal. Like I used to hear, and smell, and see a million different things... now it feels so limited. I didn't hear you coming to the house - normally I woulda sensed something.

[Taking a seat with a good deal more grace than Zack, Sephiroth folded his fingers before his mouth in thought. It was true, that Zack was going to have difficulties adjusting, but that also limited his battle prowess to a fraction of what it had been before. As much as it pained him to admit it, Sephiroth wouldn't be able to count on Zack to be beside him if he decided to attempt something risky.]

They removed your mako; perhaps it can be integrated again. Once we have control of their base, we can investigate.

[Hm, that sounded sort of promising. He wasn't particularly confident in Sephiroth's expression, though. Maybe he was reading to much into things...]

About that. Any ideas? We can't even get past the barrier.

[Sephiroth allowed a rare, mischevious smile to curl his lips, and he leaned back in the chair.]

I have a plan...if my assumptions are wrong, then it could be extremely disasterous. If I am correct...then perhaps this war can be won.

[Curious now, Zack leaned in, fingers drumming on the table.]

Wanna fill me in? I'd like to help out if I can.

[Damn.

Well, it had to be said sooner or later. Or written, in this case.]

[Zack blinked, stunned, and leaned back immediately.]

Wh-what? But Seph...

[Sephiroth closed his eyes and leaned back in his chair again, arms folding as he closed his eyes. Not even bothering to scribble a response, he let the silence speak the volumes he knew it would.]

[... And that was answer enough. Zack's face fell, disappointment clear in his gaze.]

... Because I'm too weak to be useful.

[It was partially the truth, although not in the spirit it was intended. Sephiroth paused for a moment to select the words he wanted -needed- to make Zack understand before leaning forward again.]

The body doesn't match the spirit. Perhaps if it is delayed and you have had time to train yourself up...but now, you would be in danger. A general does not put his men willingly into danger when it can be avoided.

Nor does a friend.

[Sephiroth was making perfect sense. From a soldier's standpoint, every word of it was perfectly logical and understandable. He'd been an asset. His usefulness had ended, and no one wanted a liability on a mission, dragging everyone else behind.

Still... it hurt. It brought an ache to his chest that couldn't be dispelled.]

... Yeah... fine. That's fine. I'll find something else to do.

[No, this would not do. Not the defeatist tone and not the lack of eye contact. Sephiroth reached forward and gripped Zack's bicep gently, shaking him a bit to gain the man's attention. He whispered, the feeling awkward and unwelcome as he had no tone to strengthen his voice and the very action itself felt submissive, but his eyes were hard with resolve.]

I am expecting you to keep up with me soon.

[Zack mumbled something noncommittal, though he did lift his eyes to study his friend and general's expression. His eyes widened at the sound - never in all their time together had he ever heard the strong general whisper. It was such an alien situation that it was enough to jarr him out of his woes and back into focus. Yes, he was weak now, he was practically useless in all the ways that used to matter. But it wasn't completely hopeless. He had a chance to improve, and once he proved his new worth, things could be relatively normal again.

So with no small effort, he offered up a smile, lifting a hand to grab ahold of Sephiroth's lower arm, squeezing it appreciatively.]

So, sir, what are your orders then? Are you gonna tell me what's going on, or what?

[Even if he was too weak to be of much use... it'd be nice to know he was still held in confidence.]

[Sephiroth searched Zack's expression intensely before finally releasing him. He wasn't completely satisfied...but honestly, it was a little foolhardy to expect anything more. Zack was optimistic, but not stupid, and it was only natural for him to be upset.]

My orders are for you to train as you never have before. I will need you.

And my intention...is to rid us of that barrier for at least a good deal of time.

['I will need you.' Those four words were a boost like nothing else could be, and nothing could take that from him. Sephiroth's second response made him blink, however.]

... The barrier? How the hell are you gonns pull that off?

[Sephiroth pursed his lips.]

I am going to destroy the entire mountain.
