Note to self: be more careful about who you flirt with. Sheesh.

So, lots of familiar New Feathers this time around, huh? It's getting kind of crazy. Is everyone getting settled in okay? Yuri, any guild business I should be doing?

It's been awfully quiet lately... not sure if we should be worried or what.

Oh hey, Spike! I got Tammy nesting in my room now. She's sulking, though, so I wouldn't let anybody bug her if I were you. They grow up so fast.

[Aw, he gets undivided attention? Cloud's flattered.] That traitor guy...you really think he's out to help us?

[Zack shrugs.] Hard to tell. He seems kinda nervous about getting himself caught, so unless he's a good actor he's probably not helping the other Malnosso. But that doesn't mean he's helping us, either.

And that doctor, John... [Cloud jiggles his leg nervously, folding his arms and leaning against the wall.]

...ugh.

Gotta love scientists. [Zack scuffs a hand through his hair. Or not.] I can't help but wonder what he's planning.

I don't know, but any deal they work out between them, I don't want a part of. ["Or you," is kind of tacked on the end there, all protective-like.]

[That much is predictable. Zack nods slowly, eyes closing.] It'd be nice if we found some trustworthy help one day, though. We're not doing so well on our own here.

I know. [Cloud chews on his lip. Zack had been here for over a year, Cloud had been here for almost a year, and they were still no closer to home than they had been before.]

We haven't been able to do anything here...It's so... [Cloud makes a frustrated noise.]

Yeah... [Zack reaches out to give Cloud's shoulder a reassuring little squeeze.] I know how you feel, Spike. We just can't give up, or they really will win.

There has to be something we can do, some...some weak spot we can push against. Nothing's perfect.

[Cloud lets out a breath, dragging a hand through his hair.] I feel like something bad's gonna happen.

Huh? Where'd you get that idea from? Just a feeling?

That doctor guy being on the loose, all the people from our world showing up all of a sudden. [Cloud pauses, and raises his gaze to meet Zack's.] And Sephiroth.

...what if they bring Jenova here?

[Zack's response is immediate, eyes narrowed, glancing away.]

Then we kill her.

Again and again, Zack? [Cloud hates being the devil's advocate, but...well, he's learned to be realistic.]

She'd lose something every time. How long would it take for them to realize it's not worth the trouble?

And if she gets to Sephiroth first?

[Ouch, Spike. Ouch.]

Then... we kill him, too.

[SOMEbody had to say it.]

Listen, Spike... I'm ready to do what has to be done. Don't worry about me.

You're the one I'm worried about. [Cloud moves over to hunt down Tammy, crouching next to her and scratching her little head so he doesn't have to look at Zack.]

[Zack sighs with a musing smile, listening to Tammy warble her approval at the attention.] That's why I'm telling you not to worry.

What if he goes after you? [Scritch scritch.] What if she does?

Jenova can't control me, remember? She tried and didn't get anywhere. That's why she focused so much on you, I bet. As for Seph... [Shrug.] You'll be here to watch my back.

You're not safe around me anymore. [Not looking, not looking.]

Not with him here. Not if he's like that.

[Okay that's it. In one quick motion Zack reaches over the edge of the bed and grabs Cloud's collar, yanking him upright in a surprisingly fierce grip, making Tammy squawk and skitter back to her nest. He's looking you in the eye, Cloud. :|]

I'm getting really sick of this, Cloud.

[Surprised sound, but you get a glare in return as Cloud snatches himself from Zack's grip, tugging his shirt back down.]

Sick of what? Me considering all the possibilities?
